Not every photo session needs a milestone or a big announcement. Sometimes the reason is simple: this is where we are right now, and we want to remember it. That’s exactly why Hena and Smit planned this couples session in Rancho Palos Verdes, and honestly, that intention is all you need.

When we first arrived, it seemed like it would be an overcast, moody, and quiet session. But just as we started walking the grounds, the sun slowly peeked through the clouds, giving us that soft, even light that photographers dream about. Still, the real highlight of the session wasn’t the scenery. It was them.

Hena and Smit have this playful, easy way of being together. They’re fun and a little goofy, always poking at each other, but there’s also so much admiration underneath it all. They were open to every suggestion I offered, and just as often, they’d drift into their own rhythm, laughing, leaning in, sharing private moments that didn’t need direction.

Those are always my favorite sessions, when I’m there to observe rather than orchestrate. The cliffs, the ocean air, and the open space of Rancho Palos Verdes created a calm backdrop, but their energy filled the frame. You could feel how comfortable they are together, how much they enjoy simply being with one another.

What I loved most about this session is what it represents. You don’t need a proposal, a wedding, or a big life change to take photos together. Wanting to document a season you’re living in, exactly as it is, is reason enough.

I’m grateful I got to help them mark this moment. Because sometimes, the act of being together, alive, and in love is already something worth celebrating!
